- Cross-country Ski the Spring Gulch Nordic Trail System.
Seven miles west of Carbondale you'll find the Spring Gulch Nordic Trail System and its 12 miles of groomed trails. All levels of skiers can find trails in this system that will suit their abilities. Stop by the Carbondale Chamber to pick up your copy of the Spring Gulch map.
- Backcountry Ski on Avalanche Creek
For backcountry skiing, head south to Avalanche Creek just off Highway 133. The trail follows Avalanche Creek up a beautiful, steep-walled valley. The route is great for snowshoers!
- Alpine Ski Up and Down the Valley
From Carbondale, drive east 30 miles to Aspen for alpine skiing at Aspen Mountain, Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass. Just 12 miles south of Glenwood Springs, Sunlight Mountain Resort offers an uncomplicated trail system with a variety of terrains. The laid-back, friendly resort also has trails for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.
- Ice Skating
at the Marble Mill Site & Beaver Lake; or
Visit the public Gus Darien Ice Skating Arena for ice skating and hockey games, which is just 2 miles east of Carbondale on the Catherine Store Road.
- Snow Shoeing is plentiful and nearby. We have several sizes of snowshoes to fit most everyone.
- Ice Climb the Crystal River Valley at the Marble Mill Site & Beaver Lake
The Crystal River Valley near Marble and Redstone is home to over a dozen superb ice flows of all difficulties- including Marble Falls, the Redstone Pillar and Avocado Gully. Hay Creek Falls, near Redstone, offers short and easy roadside ice climbing, and is a favorite early season practice area for locals.

The Town of Carbondale Recreation Department along with CCAH is inviting kids and adults of all ages to light up downtown Carbondale, sing along with the carolers, and welcome Santa on Friday, December 5, from 5:30pm to 8pm at 4th Street Plaza. This is a chance to mingle with friends, family and Santa!
